    Michael J. Fitzpatrick, M.D. Named to Physicans of Excellence List
    Every year the Orange County Medical Association (OCMA) conducts an extensive survey of the region’s doctors in a wide range of medical fields. The goal of the OCMA’s list is to provide patients with the names of doctors who are known as some of the most accomplished and caring. Each physician is rated on the leadership they demonstrate, the teaching and mentoring they provide, the research they conduct and the humanitarian efforts to which they are committed. This year, the OCMA named doctors in 57 specialties to its Physicians of Excellence list. Dr. Fitzpatrick was named to the list in the area of Orthopaedic Surgery.

    Dr. Fitzpatrick’s article entitled “Minimally Invasive Techniques for Shoulder Disorders ” appeared in the June edition of the St. Joseph Health Mission Hospital Newsletter. Thanks to a host of newer techniques, patients can benefit from less-invasive treatment methods, allowing quicker return to function and improved rehabilitation.

    Dr. Fitzpatrick’s article entitled “A New Fracture Model for “Terrible Triad” Injuries of the Elbow: Influence of Forearm Rotation on Injury Patterns” is online at the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma. This is a study to evaluate the influence of forearm rotation on failure patterns of the elbow under axial loads.

    Orthopedics recently published a novel technique, developed by Dr. Wilkens and his co-investigators. This technique helps to decrease the levels of dangerous circulating particles that are generated during the stabilization of broken femurs.

    SOCO welcomes Michael Prell, our new executive director. Having received his MBA from USC, Mr. Prell joins our office, most recently from Beech Street, where he served as the assistant director of network development.   • SOCO is also pleased to welcome Janell Migeot, RN to our office staff. Janell received her nursing degree from Saddleback College and trained at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center. Janell will be working in our back office improving patient services.

    Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick Releases the Results of Biomechanical
    and Laboratory Testing

    The prestigious Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery recently published the work of Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick on upper extremity conditions. Dr. Fitzpatrick’s work investigates the contribution of dynamic muscle stabilizers on the medial collateral ligament of the elbow, which is often injured in the throwing athlete.

  • In a separate publication, Dr. Fitzpatrick published the results of his investigations into minimally invasive shoulder surgery. His work allows doctors to predict the location of the axillary nerve during surgery, thus reducing the risk of nerve injury.
